Accented for Halloween!!!

Math
Fractions, fractions, fractions.
Both 5th and 6th grades have gotten knee deep into fractions and we are now working on operations involving fractions. This means we are adding and subtracting them and soon will be multiplying them!
Make sure we are keeping our notebooks in order and studying them before our quizzes. A big focus now for both grades is going to be problem solving. We focues on it at the beginning of the trimester and now it has to be reinforced again.
Remember...practice makes perfect!

1 down...2 to go!

Our first trimester has come to a c
lose! We all worked very hard over the last couple months. For a lot of us, we discovered how much of a challenge switching classes more often could really be.

Reading
We have been doing a book report a month and each one is a different format. December is a short and busy month so 201 will be doing book reports on Dr. Suess books! We will be focusing on the presentation of the books and the lesson they try to teach (for example rhyming or opposites).
We have also just finished our 1st novel as a class. Among the Hidden was a great book with lots of creativity and drama. Before break we will be doing final projects for the novel. When we return, Number the Stars will come next!

Religion
The last few chapters have been focusing on the Sacraments. We learned about the three groups of sacraments: Sacraments of Initiation, Sacraments of Healing and Sacraments at the Service of Communion. Now, we are learning about the groups and sacraments individually. Along with every chapter we research a Saint as a class. The saint facts are compiled into our notebooks and questions about them are on the tests. It is important to study all of the facts as well as the chapter content.

Spelling
Every week brings a new spelling unit with new challenge words. Thursday nights we practice spelling the words in our neatest handwriting by writing each word out 2 times each and Friday's are our tests. Practice spelling our words with us every night at home!
