St. Edward's Music Program has been recognized by the Archdicese of Chicago as having one of the best music programs for elementary students in the city of Chicago.  Many of our students go on to continue their music studies in high school, college and beyond.

 

According to the Music Lives Foundation ( www.musiclives.org ), " Experts have proven that music education enhances a childs academic performance in math and science, and engenders teamwork, communication and other social skills that are critical to success as an adult.  Music helps children develop critical thinking, basic math and reading abilities and even enhances social skills."

 

Reseach suggests that a music education enhances a student's overall education and may help them excel in many areas.    At St. Edward, we are proud to be able to offer our students a music program that incorporates song, live performances, the mastery of musical instruments and music appreciation.  We believe the proof is in the numbers.  St. Edward TerraNova scores consistently outperform the national average percentiles and, in almost all cases, outperform the Archdiocesan averages.  We believe our strong music program helps build the foundation for a successful academic career while giving children an outlet to express themselves creatively.

 

The Music Department is run by Mrs. Glorianna Bata.  There are eight music teachers on staff at St. Edward.  Children attend music classes beginning in first grade.  Children in grades one through six have sixty minutes of music per week.  Junior high students have 40 minutes of music per week.
