I am very happy to be your child’s second grade teacher. I am a graduate of Northeastern Illinois University. I received my BA and continued on to receive a Master’s Degree from Northeastern. I have been teaching for twenty years. I enjoy gardening and being with family and friends!
Below is some information that will help your child during their journey through second grade.
*Check their folder every evening for their assignment sheet. The children will have their homework assignments written in for the appropriate day as well as any reminders needed for the next day. I will sometimes write a quick comment in the box regarding your child’s needs.
*Readers are frequently brought home to reread the stories. Please have the children read to you. They will also bring library books home. The children should read for at least twenty minutes every night including the weekends. Please make sure readers and library books are returned to school on a daily basis.
*Please practice the sight/high frequency word flash cards that were sent home the first week of school. Also, practice addition and subtraction facts (0-20). The math facts need to be memorized. Flash cards can be purchased at any office supply store.
*Your child may bring a healthy snack to school. Snack time is in the morning about 9:30. Some suggestions for a healthy snack would be: granola bars, bite sized pieces of fruit, yogurt, cheese, crackers, or cut up veggies.
*Spelling tests are every Friday. If Friday is a day off, the test will be Monday.
*If you should have any questions or concerns, please contact me via email, a note sent with your child, or leave a message with the school office.
*School supplies such as pencils, erasers, and glue sticks may need to be replaced. Please check with your child to see if they need new supplies.
