GYM NEWS
This year we are introducing a new gym uniform. They are our Navy blue jams and T-shirt with navy blue printing. You may also wear the Red uniform this year. Next school year will only be the Navy Blue. I have extra red uniform stock if you wish to purchase them at a discount.
4 year old preschool
I will be having our youngest members of St. Edward’s beginning in October.
Kindergarten
Their class meets once a week. They are learning about spatial awareness, boundaries, right and left, sportsmanship, and practicing large locomotive skills. Kindergarten directives and rules were sent home with your child.
Reminder: Please be sure to have your child wear gym shoes, no skorts, dresses, or skirts, and the girls must have their hair tied back and an elastic headband.
Primary Grades 1 – 3
Grades 1 – 3 meet twice a week. First and Second graders are working on their tummy crunches, leg raises, co-ordination (jumping jacks), and jogging laps at the start of their classes. Third graders are doing full sit-ups on the mats with partners. (They should be practicing these at home.) They all are working on teamwork and on direction following during various relay games and game playing. Good sportsmanship is always stressed. Directives as to their uniform and class times were distributed to each student. This year the First Graders are eligible to play in our Pinball tournament.
Middle Grades 4 – 6
Middle grades are working on improving their mat exercises and improving their sit-up scores. We are working on push-ups for upper arm strength and should be practicing this at home. Soon will be jogging outside (weather permitting) on the side block of Sunnyside to Wilson and back several times. We are working on relays, agility games and some Basketball lead-up games. Directives as to their uniform and class times have been handed to each student in these grades.
Junior High Grades 7 & 8
Junior High has individual class times once a week. They do their stretches, sit-ups push-up and now jog on the side of Sunnyside to Wilson back and forth to build up endurance. We are and will do sport lead-up games and exercise drills in class. The Junior High also has lunch in the gym on their gym day with their partner class and then has open gym after lunch. Directives were handed out to each student and are expected to be followed.
All students 3 – 8th grade are to practice their sit-ups at home and will be graded according to the Presidential Fitness scores on their report card. Grades 1 & 2 are to practice their tummy crunches everyday at home.
A Gym report card separate from the school report card will be sent on the First and Third Trimesters.
Early Risers announcement will be sent out in October!
Finally, the two slogans that I really stress are: ” Practice makes possible” and “We win with humility and lose with dignity”.
Practice makes possible!
